1. Who I am

This Cookies Policy applies to the website https://mortonot.co.uk/ (the “Site”), operated by Morton Occupational Therapy (“I”, “me”, or “my”). I act as a data controller for the personal data I collect via cookies and similar technologies on this Site. For information about how I handle personal data more generally (including your rights), please see my main Privacy Notice, which sits alongside this Cookies Policy.

2. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites work, to improve efficiency, and to provide information to website owners. Some cookies are strictly necessary for the Site to function, while others are optional (for example, for analytics or to remember your preferences).

3. Cookies I use on this Site

I use the following types of cookies on my Site:
  • Essential cookies: Required for core functions such as security and login. These cannot be switched off via my banner or settings because they are needed for the Site to work.
  • Functionality cookies: Used to remember choices you make (for example, your login preferences and screen display options).
  • Comment / form cookies: Used to remember your details when you leave a comment on the Site, so you do not have to re‑enter them every time.
I do not currently use cookies for targeted advertising. If this changes in future, I will update this Cookies Policy and my consent mechanism.

4. Specific cookies in use

  • Comments and Gravatar Gravatar is a service provided by Automattic Inc.; Automattic acts as an independent data controller for any personal data it processes via its service. You can read Automattic’s privacy information here: https://automattic.com/privacy/When you leave a comment on the Site, I collect the data shown in the comments form, as well as your IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection. If you use an email address associated with a Gravatar account, an anonymised string (a hash) created from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you have a profile there. If Gravatar recognises your profile, your Gravatar image may be displayed publicly next to your approved comment on my Site.
  • Login and site management If you visit a login page, I set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies; this cookie does not contain personal data and is removed when you close your browser. When you log in, I set cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies typically last for two days, and screen options cookies for one year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for around two weeks, and the login cookies will be removed when you log out.If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be stored in your browser; this contains the ID of the post you just edited and expires after about one day.
  • Contact forms I use the Contact Form 7 plugin to manage contact form submissions. Form information is sent to me by email and may also be stored on my hosting server for backup and record‑keeping. Any cookies associated with these forms are used to ensure the form works correctly and to help protect against spam.

5. How long cookies last

Some cookies are “session” cookies, which are deleted when you close your browser, while others are “persistent” cookies, which remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them. Examples on my Site include:
  • Comment convenience cookies: up to one year.
  • Login cookies: around two days (or around two weeks if “Remember Me” is selected).
  • Screen options cookies: around one year.

6. Managing cookies

You can control and manage cookies through:
  • My on‑site cookie banner or settings tool (where available), which allows you to accept or reject non‑essential cookies.
  • Your browser settings, which allow you to block or delete cookies from this Site and others. Most browsers provide guidance on this in their Help section.
Please note that blocking all cookies, especially essential ones, may affect how my Site functions and could mean some features do not work properly.

7. Embedded content and third parties

My Site may include embedded content from other websites (for example, videos, images, or articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if you had visited those websites directly, and those third parties may set their own cookies, collect data about you, and monitor your interaction with that content (including if you have an account and are logged in to their services). I do not control these third‑party cookies, and I encourage you to review the privacy and cookie policies of any third‑party services you interact with.

8. Updates to this Cookies Policy

I may update this Cookies Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the cookies I use, our services, or legal requirements. Any changes will be posted on this page, and where appropriate I will notify you through my Site (for example, via a notice or updated cookie banner).
